This book provides a brief but authoritative overview. This is a dip-in reference book with information presented in an immediate, highly visual way, with text in easily manageable chunks. Working spread by spread, largely on a chronological basis, each of the seventy spreads contains a heading, subheading, Bible verse serving as a gloss, introductory text and a number of shorter pieces of text. The short pieces are thematic, covering topics such as profiles of key people, nations and empires, and words and ideas. The latter will help explain some unfamiliar words and concepts used in the Bible and introduce some very basic theology where it would be helpful.
